Press releases contain a lot more information than just  announcements of critical events, such as product launches, financial results, or major acquisitions.

If you’re able to read between the lines of a press release you can identify subtle hints or clues that provide insights into a company’s strategy, future plans, or potential risks. Doing so is hard and requires more time than most professionals have to spare, so the information gets lost.

One example of this is a partnership announcement. When a company announces a new partnership, it can imply a new business strategy. For instance, if a company in the software industry partners with a company in the hardware industry, it likely implies a new integrated product. In most cases, you can probably guess a small handful of possibilities if you understand each business’s specialization. If you can do this, you might know what competitor is about to be hurt, what new market opportunity is about to open, or what new story might be worth getting a jump on now.

Another example of hidden information is an announcement about the implementation of a large software product. Implementing new software can imply something about a company’s growth forecasts. For instance, if a company invests in a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, it may indicate that the company expects significant growth in the near future. If they haven’t explained why, this might be because of a new market expansion, M&A activity they aren’t talking about, or another large scale change to their business.

Additionally, the wording and tone of a press release can also reveal hidden information. Positive language can create a sense of excitement and optimism around a new product launch, while cautious language can downplay potential risks or challenges. The order in which information is presented can also be revealing. For instance, if a company discusses its financial results before announcing a major acquisition, it may be signaling that the acquisition was not the primary driver of the positive results.

If you only read a handful of press releases it would be nearly impossible to see these patterns. Even if you read hundreds of them a day, you’re going to miss others from companies that weren’t on your radar at all. Large Language Models (like what NewsPulse AI uses) turn this upside down; now you can let a bot do the high level analysis and you spend your time thinking about what this hidden information means.
